CERTIFIED ORGANIC -- So What?
Being Certified Organic means that our gardens, greenhouses and shiitake
mushrooms are grown using materials and practices approved by the National
Standards for Organic Production. We are inspected annually by Quality
Certification Services of Florida Organic Growers (FOG). Our goal is to
produce a healthy robust product using farm practices that maintain or improve
the soil and water quality. That means being environmentally responsible
in our soil fertility and pest management with respect to allowable practices
and applied substances. We propagate nearly 100% of our plants, using
cuttings from existing plants and seeds from organic sources when at all
possible. This requires much more work and planning to be reasonably sure
that we have enough of the lavender, rosemary, basil, and other herbs ready to
sell when you are ready to plant take months to become established. Propagation
is ongoing. We are always striving to have a jump on the next season and
committed to producing plants that have a good success for our climatic zone.
Utmost being certified organic for us is a philosophy of life.
